Abbe Hassan

Director, producer and screenwriter Abbe Hassan is the producer behind the critically acclaimed feature film A Hustler’s Diary (2017), which became one of the most successful Swedish films of the year. He has directed several short films, the latest being Gold (2017), which won ‘Best Short Film’ at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival Kids, and the Grand Short Film Prize at the 2018 Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival. Hassan’s debut feature film Exodus opened Gothenburg Film Festival in 2023 and was met with great reviews.

2020 saw the premiere of A Hustler’s Diary – The Series, a stand-alone series based on the hit movie of the same title. The popular comedy-drama is directed by Hassan and Ivica Zubak. Hassan is also director of the new SVT dramedy Älskade Samir which premiered in May 2023.

In his films, Hassan strives to depict an intriguing and true-to-reality image of contemporary society, working with original voices and stories to combine quality with commercial appeal.

Besides working with feature and short films, Hassan has produced over sixty commercials in the last seven years, and is one of the founders of the production company Indian Summer Film.

‘Exodus’ nominated for ’Best Screenplay’ at the 2023 Guldbagge Awards

Critically acclaimed Exodus, directed by Abbe Hassan and written by Kristoffer Cras and Abbe Hassan, is nominated for a Guldbagge Award in the category Best Screenplay.

The Guldbagge Awards Gala is arranged by the Swedish Film Institute in collaboration with SVT and will take place at Cirkus in Stockholm on January 15, 2024.

Trailer release for ‘Älskade Samir’

SVT has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming drama comedy Älskade Samir, created by Marioan Hosseini and directed by Abbe Hassan.

The seven-part series revolves around Samir, a thirty-year-old man who never takes responsibility for anything. One day, he comes home and discovers a letter stating that his girlfriend Nasrin has left him. He must now do everything in his power to try to find her and win her back.

Älskade Samir will premiere May 26 on SVT Play.

‘Exodus’ to open Göteborg Film Festival 2023

The biggest festival in Scandinavia, Göteborg Film Festival opens with the world premiere of Abbe Hassan’s much awaited feature debut Exodus on January 27. Exodus will also compete for the title of ‘Best Nordic Film.’

Abbe Hassan’s ‘Exodus’ filming in Greece

Exodus, directed by Abbe Hassan and written by Kristoffer Cras and Abbe Hassan, is currently filming in Greece.

A warm-hearted story of survival and friendship, Exodus is inspired by Hassan’s experience as a refugee who left war-torn Beirut for Sweden as a child. In the feature film, we meet the young Amal fleeing Syria. In a Turkish harbour, she meets the refugee smuggler Sam. Amal wants to travel to Greece where her sisters are, and then join her parents in Sweden. The quick-wittedbut traumatised young girl and the older, jaded Sam travel together through Europe in search offreedom, gradually developing a father-daughter relationship that will mean both their survival and awakening.

In the lead roles are Israeli Ashraf Barhom (Clash of the Titans) and the young Jwan Algatami. Exodus is produced by B-Reel Films (Midsommar), and is slated for domestic release in March 2022.

‘A Hustler’s Diary – The Series’ to premiere on SVT

A Hustler’s Diary is a stand-alone series based on the hit movie of the same title, released in 2017. All eight episodes of the series will be available to watch on SVT Play on September 4. The first episode will air September 5 on SVT 1.

The comedy-drama is directed by Abbe Hassan and Ivica Zubac. The script is written by Ivica Zubac along with Marcelo Obon and Can Demirtas.

‘A Hustler’s Diary – The Series’ premieres on SVT in 2020

A Hustler’s Diary – The Series, created by Ivica Zubac (left) and Abbe Hassan (right), will premiere on SVT in 2020. The series is an eight-part stand-alone sequel to the film A Hustler’s Diary (2017) and follows the main character Metim, now out of prison and back to living with his mother and younger brother. Metim still hopes to become an author or maybe an actor – quite simply, to become rich and famous.

Anna Croneman, Head of Drama at SVT: “It is a warm story about kinship in alienation, insanely funny and different to everything else in the comedy genre.”

The series will be directed by Abbe Hassan and Ivica Zubac and is written by Ivica Zubac along with Marcelo Obon and Can Demirtas.
