Reviews

  • “Well-made, riddle-based sleuthing entertainment for the youngest /…/ The threats and danger are at a level that’s relatable to kids, sawed-off ladders and paint buckets that tip over. The suspense in the books isn’t tied to the chase or confrontation, but to the interpreting of leads and the solving of riddles. Like in his other children’s book series, CLUE, Horst does an excellent job in arranging the event so that the readers can solve the mystery together with the protagonists. /…/ Horst adds some chuckles for the adult readers, too /…/ Sandnes once again shows himself to be a competent illustrator who’s well equipped for the task. All the illustrations are half-close, and but for one exception, presented from a straight-on angle – at a child’s height! It’s wonderfully thought-out. The style is comic-like, with visible outlines, clean colors, and a character design somewhere between “realistic” and caricatureish. It’s very close to the style of American animations, and can remind one of Art Director Don Griffiths at Disney. /…/ We can therefore safely conclude that Horst, Sandnes and the detectives Tiril and Oliver in Riverton have delivered yet again: excellently adapted suspense and learning in a form and format that both children and adults can rely on. Wonderful handicraft that we’re glad to recommend.”
