Patrioterna The Patriots
The murder of a female journalist spread terror through Stockholm’s newsrooms. Journalists are used to receiving daily threats, but now they fear for their lives.
Young journalist Madeleine Winther has her mind set on something completely different. She knows just how to move her career forward and is working on the scoop of a lifetime.
Carl Cederhielm has made a holy promise to protect the country from enemies. Together with his two accomplices, Carl has put together a list of ten names. They will avenge those who cannot avenge themselves.
In a country far away, a man longs for the return to his home in Sweden. He spreads fear to all the inhabitants of the small city where he now resides, by working as a bodyguard for a weapons and drug smuggling Russian.
Soon, all of their paths will cross, and Sweden will be faced with a new, unscrupulous reality. But for Carl Cederhielm, the mission is far from complete. It’s high time to avenge the next person on his list.

“Debutant Pascal Engman succeeds at tying the three narratives together, the novel is both thrilling and frightening. /…/ Engman gives a dystopic image of Sweden. The fictive events are linked to real ones, which increases the realism.”

“[The Patriots] is a thriller written in a journalistic form. Short sentences, no superfluous words. /…/ [A]n intrigue with high recognition factor. /…/ Centered around [hatred and xenophobia], the action is exciting and colorful. /…/ It is a meaningful and serious theme that Pascal Engman depicts in a skilled manner.”

“It’s too soon to name Pascal the new Sjöwall & Wahlöö, Jan Guillou, Liza Marklund, or Stieg Larsson. /…/ But it’s looking really good. /…/ The Patriots is a smashing suspense novel.”
-
“A dramatic intro, just like an action movie, and more action follows. /…/ Engman uses the nowadays so familiar cross cutting technique, and I have to admit that Engman pieces this terrorist hunt together (…) nicely before he has his main characters meet in a classic showdown.”
