New Author – Thomas Enger

Thomas Enger (b.1973) has rapidly distinguished himself as one of the most exciting new voices in Young Adult fiction. The Oslo-born author wrote for Norway’s flagship newspapers for eight years before switching careers to that of author. His critically acclaimed crime fiction went on to sell to over 30 countries, and for his YA novels Enger received the prestigious Norwegian Uprisen award twice, officially profiling him as one of the most promising writers in the genre.

The weekly Swedish bestseller lists

The official weekly bestseller list for hardcovers sees two familiar names in the top three: Lars Kepler, whose Lazarus is No. 2, and Hjorth & Rosenfeldt, who come in at No. 3 with A higher Justice. Leif GW Persson also stays in the top three, but on the non-fiction list. His Master Detective Willy: the Story of My Career is No. 3 this week.

The paperback list sees Stefan Ahnhem shoot to the top, placing No. 1 with Motive X. Stina Jackson’s The Silver Road is No. 5 on the same list, but also comes in at No. 3 in audio, and No. 2 in e-books. She's joined on the e-book list by Niklas Natt och Dag’s The Wolf and the Watchman, No. 5 this week.

‘A Higher Justice’ on the Norwegian bestseller lists

Hjorth & Rosenfeldt’s A Higher Justice stays on the official weekly bestseller lists in Norway, this week placing No. 4 on the e-book list and No. 5 on the hardcover one.

Nesbø and Backman two of the most successful translated authors in the UK 2018

Statistics from the UK book sales monitor Nielsen Book Scan show that Jo Nesbø is the most sold translated author of 2018 in the UK. Nesbø’s eleventh installment in the Harry Hole series, The Thirst, is No. 1 on the official list, and Macbeth, his latest stand-alone novel, is No. 2. Also on the top twenty list is Fredrik Backman, whose long-running bestseller A Man Called Ove, comes in at No. 16.

‘The Wolf and the Watchman’ No. 3 in Germany for the second week in a row

Niklas Natt och Dag’s debut novel The Wolf and the Watchman continues to claim spot No. 3 on Der Spiegel’s bestseller list for trade paperbacks this week as well.

Jørn Lier Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandnes dominate the 2018 children’s bestseller list in Norway

The bestseller list for the most sold Norwegian children’s books in Norway 2018 has been announced, and Jørn Lier Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandnes’ Detective Agency No. 2 series dominates the list and occupies an impressive thirteen out of fifteen placements. Starting with Operation Mummy at No. 2, the books featured are the following: Operation Pirate, Operation Summer Island, Operation Ghost, Operation Shadowman, Operation Circus, Operation Thundercloud, Operation Shipwreck, The Search for the Queen of the Jungle, Operation Windblast, The Search for The Thief’s Thief, Operation Junk Thief and Operation Daffodil.

Liza Marklund and Katrine Engberg on the Danish bestseller lists

Liza Marklund’s Black Pearl Farm tops three of the biggest Danish retailers’ bestseller lists for hardcover fiction this week. Katrine Engberg features with two of her novels on Arnold Busck’s bestseller list for paperbacks: The Scar Keeper at No. 2 and The Butterfly House at No. 5.

Caroline Cowan joins Salomonsson Agency

Caroline Cowan holds a Bachelor of Honor in Film from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College in London and is the director of numerous acclaimed short films and TV-series.

Cowan is the writer and director behind Joy (2014), a children’s drama series which was nominated at the Prix Jeunesse, the world’s oldest and most esteemed children’s TV festival. Cowan is also the director of the crime hit series Arne Dahl: Hidden Numbers (2015) which has garnered great success both in its native Sweden and abroad.

Currently, Cowan is involved in the development of multiple new projects including a family feature based on a successful young adult novel.

New authorship – Simon Stålenhag & Anna Davour

Simon Stålenhag (b. 1984) is the internationally acclaimed author and artist behind Tales from the Loop, Things from the Flood and The Electric State. His images and stories depicting illusive sci-fi phenomena in mundane, hyper-realistic Scandinavian and American landscapes have made Stålenhag one of the most sought-after visual storytellers in the world.

Anna Davour (b. 1975) is a science journalist at one of Sweden’s most well-respected popular science magazines, Forskning & Framsteg. In addition to her journalistic career, Davour has worked in the field of astroparticle physics, joining the search for dark matter and so-called WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles). She has also worked for the science department of the Swedish national radio, Sveriges Radio.
