Sissela Nelander joins Salomonsson Agency

The Swedish rising star screenwriter Sissela Nelander has a background in writing for theatre and web series. She has a Bachelor in Literary Studies and also attended the Literary Composition program at the renowned HDK-Valand-Academy of Art and Design. 

In 2019 Nelander’s play Hymn till Persefone was performed at the Paradiso Festival at Turteatern, and her subsequent production GUNNARMATERIALET saw its premiere in 2020 at the Arrival project in Gothenburg. 

Together with her comedy group Oskönheter she co-created and wrote the web series Kollektivet, working with the production company ENT. Nelander has also, together with a script group, developed a TV series for the production company Splay with support from SFI. 

Nelander is currently writing the screenplay for the adaptation of a hit Swedish novel, more details to be released soon. 

‘Exit’ season 2 nominated for ‘Best Returning Series’ in C21 International Drama Awards

The second season of Exit, Øystein Karlsen’s runaway success series, has been nominated for the prestigious C21 International Drama Awards in the ‘Best Returning Series’ category, alongside gigantic series like The Crown and La Casa de Papel, productions with around 100 million dollars more in budget than Exit. The other nominees in this category are Line of Duty, Baptiste and The Good Fight.

The winners will be announced at the International Drama Awards Ceremony in London on December 2nd.

‘Brain Blues’ and ‘1795’ on the weekly Swedish bestseller lists

Anders Hansen’s just published Brain Blues goes straight to No. 1 on both the official Swedish bestseller list for hardcover non-fiction and the equivalent for e-books, while also claiming the No. 3 spot in the audio category. Niklas Natt och Dag’s 1795 comes in at No. 2 on the e-book list this week.

Natt och Dag, Hansen and Ahrnstedt on the October bestseller lists

Niklas Natt och Dag’s 1795 claims top placements on the official Swedish bestseller lists for the month of October across all formats, coming in at No. 1 on the hardcover and e-book list and No. 2 on the audio list. Anders Hansen’s Brain Blues, published only three days before the end of the month, grabs the No. 3 spot on the non-fiction list, while Simona Ahrnstedt’s The Queen of the Night takes the No. 5 spot on the e-book list.

Ahnhem and Holt on the Norwegian bestseller list

Stefan Ahnhem’s The Final Nail stays firmly put at at No. 1 on the official Norwegian bestseller list for e-books for the second consecutive week, and enters the hardcover fiction list at No. 4 this week. Anne Holt’s The Eleventh Manuscript joins Ahnhem on the e-book list, coming in at No. 2.

‘Anxious People’ on The New York Times Best Seller List

Fredrik Backman’s Anxious People returns to The New York Times Best Seller List for paperbacks this week, coming in at No. 10. This marks the novel’s 13th week on the list.

‘As You Sow’ on Der Spiegel’s bestseller list

Hjorth & Rosenfeldt’s As You Sow, the seventh and penultimate installment in Hjorth & Rosenfeldt’s Sebastian Bergman series, is No. 5 on the official German bestseller list this week. This marks the third consecutive week for the novel on Der Spiegel’s list for hardcover fiction.

Anders Weidemann to adapt and executive produce ‘Thumbs’

Anders Weidemann is attached to adapt Thumbs, a live-action drama based on the bestselling graphic novel written by Sean Lewis with art by Hayden Sherman. Weidemann will write the adaptation of the story, which follows 17-year-old Charlie “Thumbs” James, gamer and social outsider, who enters an esports tournament hoping to win a scholarship from tech billionaire Adrien Camus’ gamer academy so he can get his ticket out of his neighborhood. But soon he finds himself fighting real life-and-death battles in a covert war between Camus’ teenage army and a neo-fascist anti-tech movement that is about to take over the U.S.

Thumbs is one of two projects on the initial development slate of McFarlane Film’s just launched TV production unit, which will be overseen by Todd McFarlane, the comic book creator behind Spawn, and his President of Television, Sean Canino.

Weidemann, McFarlane and Canino will executive produce Thumbs, along with Allard Cantor and Jarrod Murray through Epicenter, with Sean Lewis on-board as a producer.

‘Cry Wolf’ the big winner at THIS Series Awards

The drama series Cry Wolf, praised by viewers and critics alike, won the prestigious ‘Best Series Award’ and the ‘Best Screenplay Award’ at the 2021 THIS Series Awards in Aarhus, Denmark. 

Maja Jul Larsen, the series’ creator and writer, was applauded for “her ability to handle a complex story and to keep the audience on the edge.”

Furthermore, Cry Wolf was earlier this year awarded the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for ‘Best Screenplay,’ received a Golden Eye for ‘Best International TV Drama’ at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival, and won five awards at the 2021 Danish Film Awards including ‘Best TV Series.’
