Actress Ellen Helinder grew up in Karlstad, western Sweden, and has since lived in London, Oslo and Stockholm. She made her stage debut at the age of ten, at Värmlandsteatern in her hometown. In her early 20s, she moved to Stockholm and started pursuing acting as a career, studying the craft through techniques such as the Chubbuck and Meisner ones.
Helinder has acted in numerous Swedish hit series including Gåsmamman (2016) and Sommaren med släkten (2020). In 2018, she landed the role of Magdalena in the mega success series Exit, which has become Scandinavia’s most viewed series of all time. Her stellar performance has led to her character becoming one of the main roles in the third season.
In an interview about Exit season 3, creator Øystein Karlsen described her acting as “Honest, raw, vulnerable and brave. She has that special, unexplainable quality that comes alive when the camera starts rolling, and that you just can’t take your eyes off of until she exits frame.”
Helinder starred in the comedy drama Homecoming (2019), for which she was awarded ‘Best Actress’ at the Across the Globe Festival, and received a nomination for ‘Best Swedish Female Actor’ at the Västerås Film Festival.
Furthermore, Helinder debuted as a filmmaker in 2020, with her documentary Little Big Brother, which premiered on Swedish TV4. The documentary has been distributed internationally and featured in among else The Guardian and The Daily Mail.

Today, Netflix announces that Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole has completed filming. The video above is the very first look of Tobias Santelmann as the legendary detective Harry Hole and Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler, in Harry’s shabby Oslo apartment. Shooting commenced on May 23 and has been shot in more than 160 locations over 113 days in Oslo including iconic Harry Hole locations like Harry’s favourite hangout Restaurant Schrøder and Frognerbadet.
Netflix also announces that Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World, Bergman Island), Ane Dahl Torp (Home Ground, Charter) and pop-singer Dagny (Home for Christmas) have joined the star-studded cast for the highly anticipated series.
Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole will premiere globally on Netflix in 2026.
It’s now official that Ellen Helinder, Kelly Gale, Agnes Kittelsen and Frank Kjosås are joining the star-studded cast of Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, Netflix’s forthcoming crime series based on the Harry Hole novels from Jo Nesbø.
Director Anna Zackrisson (Deliver Me, The Helicopter Heist) has also joined the production, which as previously reported, will star Tobias Santelmann, Joel Kinnaman and Pia Tjelta. Created and written by Nesbø, the show’s other director is Øystein Karlsen. The cast will also include Peter Stormare, Simon Berger and Anders Baasmo, among else.
Tor Arne Øvrebø is producing the series, which hails from Working Title Television and Universal International Studios. Executive producers include Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Øystein Karlsen, Jo Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson. The show is slated to debut on Netflix in 2026.

A mind-blowing 1.082.000 Norwegians watched the first episode over the course of just four days, a figure that proves that Exit is the most popular TV drama in Norway.

Based on true events, Exit is set in Norway’s high-flying financial world and the hugely successful dark and twisted two previous seasons instantly became the most streamed series in NRK’s history and was lauded around the world.
