Henrik Björn

Showrunner, writer and director Henrik Björn has a long-standing career in the film and TV industry, creating groundbreaking, quality storytelling. He is dedicated to and has a passion for genre and exciting world building – and for telling gripping stories that can travel the globe.

Already in his early twenties Björn co-founded the successful production company Palladium, then foremostly working with commercials. As a commercial director he soon moved up in the industry and has today made more than 500 commercials with TV-clients such as Sony Ericsson, Premier League, Peugeot, Viasat, TV4, Amnesty International and the UN. Björn has also received multiple awards for his work, among else Gold in Promax for Premier League/Off to Sweden/Viaplay and Gold in 100W for SEB – The Bank at Home. Furthermore he has been nominated five times as one of the top ten commercial directors in Sweden in the business magazine Resumé’s Film of the Month.

Whilst working as a commercial director he felt increasingly drawn to creating stories for bigger formats, and an idea for a TV series started to grow. The following years this idea evolved into the incredibly successful crime fantasy drama Jordskott (2015-2017) for which he was creator, showrunner, head writer and conceptual director. Jordskott was a mega hit among viewers and critics alike, and has been sold to over 160 countries to date. It was awarded with a Swedish Emmy – a Kristallen Award – for ‘Best TV Drama’ and the Banff Rockie Award for ‘Best Serial Drama’.

2021 saw the premiere of his audio drama Djupet/The Deep, starring Alba August and Stina Ekblad. The series, which he wrote and directed, was a huge success for commissioner SR. It was nominated at the Swedish Radio Academy’s Golden Ear Awards in the prestigious ‘Best Pod Production’ category as the only drama production.

Björn is creator and director, together with Felix Herngren, of the coming thriller series Jana – Marked For Life, set to premiere in 2023. The series is an adaptation of Emelie Schepp’s bestselling novel of the same name.

New Netflix original series ‘Glaskupan’

The new Swedish Netflix crime series Glaskupan will soon begin shooting in Älvdalen. The series is developed by best-selling author Camilla Läckberg and will be directed by Lisa Farzaneh and Henrik Björn. Lisa Linnertorp, Amanda Högberg and Axel Stjärne are the series’ writers.

Behaviorist and criminologist Lejla returns to a small depopulated community somewhere in Sweden. She has dual feelings about the place. Somewhere in this village, she was held captive by an unknown perpetrator as a young girl. But it is also the place where she finally found a home, with the now retired police chief Valter. When Lejla returns, it doesn’t take long before a girl disappears. As Valter and Lejla dig into the disappearance, she is also forced to face her own darkness – a place she has long tried to keep closed. It seems that the whole village holds secrets. Could it be history repeating itself?

Cast released for ‘Jana – Marked For Life’

The star-studded cast has been announced for the much-anticipated thriller series Jana – Marked For Life. Madeleine Martin will portray Jana Berzelius, and is joined by castmates Johan Ulveson, Pernilla August, Moa Gammel, Sigrid Johnson and Suzanne Reuter.

The six episodes are created and directed by Henrik Björn and Felix Herngren. Daniel Sawka is head-writer together with Maria Karlsson.

The series is an adaptation of Emelie Schepp’s bestselling novel of the same name, and it will premiere on Viaplay in the autumn 2023.

Thriller series ’Jana – Marked For Life’ to premiere on Viaplay 2023

It is now official that the new thriller series Jana – Marked For Life will premiere on Viaplay in autumn 2023. The six episodes are created and will be directed by Henrik Björn (Jordskott) and Felix Herngren, and Daniel Sawka (Icebox) is head writer together with Maria Karlsson.

The story will revolve around the prosecutor Jana who we encounter during an investigation into the murder of a high-ranking official at the Swedish Migration Agency. But when the main suspect is found dead, Jana recognizes something familiar on his scarred body from her own past. In order to understand and deal with her troubled past, Jana must find the killer before the police does.

The series is an adaptation of Emelie Schepp’s bestselling novel Jana – Marked For Life and will be produced by FLX.

Spotify releasing audio drama by Henrik Björn

Spotify and the climate tech company Planethon is letting research and art meet in a new audio drama project called Twentyseventytwo. Three prominent Swedish writers and film directors have written audio dramas that take place 50 years in the future and is based on research data and future scenarios from Planethon. Henrik Björn’s story Ragna, told by Gizem Kling Erdogan, is now available for listening on Spotify.

In Ragna we meet Liv who lives in the great primeval forest with her grandfather who teaches her everything he knows about the world around them. But one day he takes her on a journey that will completely turn her world upside down. When everything is revealed, she must start making new difficult choices about the future. 

Two audio dramas are also written by Tuva Novotny (The Wild City with Edvin Ryding) and Nathalie Álvarez Mesén (Do not cry over your bees with Maxida Märak).

The project is released in connection with the Stockholm +50 environmental conference to help raise awareness of the climate crisis.

Henrik Björn’s ‘The Deep’ shortlisted for the New York Radio Awards

The nominations are out for this year’s New York Radio Awards and the successful audio drama The Deep written and directed by Henrik Björn for Radio Sweden (Sveriges Radio), is shortlisted for ‘Best Drama Podcast.’

The Radio Awards is one of the world’s most prestigious radio awards and receives entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from over 30 countries around the globe. The mission of the competition is to honor the achievements of the men and women who make up the global audio storytelling community.
