Iram Haq

Norwegian director and writer Iram Haq (b. 1976) is one of Scandinavia’s most intriguing and prominent filmmakers.

Haq has a successful career as an actor, both on stage and in feature and TV films. In 2004 she took the leap from actor to filmmaker when she wrote and starred in the short film Old Faithful which was selected for the Short Film Competition at the 2004 Venice Film Festival. A few years later came her directorial debut with the awarded short Little Miss Eyeflap (2009) which saw its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and then went on to screen at numerous film festivals.

In 2013, Haq’s first feature film I am Yours premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to great acclaim, and was later selected as Norway’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards. Her second feature What Will People Say (2017) also premiered in Toronto where it was highly praised, and reaped multiple prestigious titles, including Best Film, Best Direction and Best Screenplay at the Amanda Awards. Again, Haq’s feature was chosen as Norway’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

Furthermore, Haq has also written several novels, including What Will People Say and Little Miss Eyeflap which both are based on her films of the same names, and Unloved which was published in 2021 to fantastic reviews.
