Maria Nohra grew up in Vänersborg and moved to Stockholm to explore a career in acting. Though her background is in dancing, her sight has always been on acting, which led her to shift focus and begin her theatre training at Stockholms Elementära Teaterskola (SET). Upon graduating, she created her first theatre play, Min mammas dotter, a humorous and emotionally charged monologue based on her own childhood, growing up with a Lebanese mother who broke all the norms. Min mammas dotter received great praise and went on to tour the whole country, with Nohra herself performing the play over 100 times.
Nohra has been seen in many successful Swedish TV series, including Heder (2019-2022) in which she appeared as the character Leyla for three seasons; she was seen as the reporter in the 2019 Swedish Christmas Calendar Panic in Santa’s Workshop; and in the lauded SVT series Sjukt (2021), where she took on the role as the charismatic friend Shantana.
Furthermore, Nohra has extensive experience in radio, as she hosted one of Sweden’s most popular radio talk shows Morgonpasset i P3 between 2017-2020. During her time at Morgonpasset she interviewed some of the most prominent personalities in Sweden.
Nohra speaks several languages, having learned them at an early age in a Lebanese household where Swedish, Arabic, English and French was common. Another skill she acquired early on is boxing, from which she earned the title of Swedish champion at age fifteen.
2024 saw the premiere of the anticipated Netflix TV series Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, based on Astrid Lindgren’s classic story and screenplay written by Hans Rosenfeldt, where Norah plays the significant role of Undis, Birk’s mother.

Hans Rosenfeldt’s Ronja the Robber’s Daughter (Ronja Rövardotter) premiered on March 28 to great reviews.
“Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is loaded with a new kind of darkness.”
– SVT
“The new TV series Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is lavish and medieval-dark, but also contemporary in terms of language and special effects. A well-played adventure with a storm of emotions. Love and friendship, hatred and vengeance against a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop of natural lyricism. The first part leaves you wanting more.”
– Dagens Nyheter
“Rosenfeldt has modernized the story in ways that are obvious and expected today. There is a social conscience, the issue of robbery is problematized, background stories and traumatizing events play a more prominent role, and it’s obvious that they’ve considered gender and diversity. […] The new Ronja the Robber’s Daughter is a blend of magnificent natural lyricism and a bit of appropriately dark and scary family fantasy that maintains high quality.“
– Aftonbladet
“The series creators have been faithful to Lindgren’s spirit and unique storytelling style, while also spicing up the story with ‘modern’ elements, but preserving the unique Scandinavian style, culture, and societal portrayal. There is never any doubt that the series is a genuinely Scandinavian product that could not be recreated in an ‘Americanized’ manner. […] Without hesitation, we award a special recommendation […] to a series that impresses, entertains, and will continue to fascinate young and old alike.”

The first episode of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, one of the biggest endeavors in Nordic television to date, premiers today on Netflix.
The classic Astrid Lindgren adventure about the strong and independent girl Ronja took the whole world by storm when the book was published over 40 years ago and in total, an astonishing eleven million copies of the book have been sold globally. Now, with Hans Rosenfeldt’s adaptation for the screen, viewers are given a deeper insight into Ronja’s world. The story remains the same but is embellished and adapted for today’s audience with grand special effects, beautiful scenery, and more developed characters and settings.
Director Lisa James Larsson says:
“So many of us have grown up with Ronja the Robber’s Daughter and we’re incredibly proud and grateful for the enormous commitment and effort everyone has put into this project. We auditioned more than 4000 actors to find the right Ronja, and have traveled to the most incredible places Sweden has to offer, from castles in Bohuslän via the deep forests of Dalarna to magnificent waterfalls in Jämtland to find the perfect locations for filming. Our series reflects the strong commitment and creative passion of our film crew and cast of over 200 people, and we’re so excited for it to launch on Netflix.”
The series is divided into two parts with a total of twelve 45-minute episodes and stars Kerstin Linden, Christopher Wagelin, Sverrir Gudnason, Pernilla August, Johan Ulveson and Maria Nohra, among others.
