Lars Kepler, Kristina Ohlsson and Tina Mackic among the most sold in Sweden 2024

The official 2024 bestseller lists in Sweden have been announced, with Lars Kepler securing the top spot in the hardcover fiction category for The Sleepwalker, released just last September. Kristina Ohlsson’s Beyond Rescue lands at No. 6 in the same category, while Tina Mackic’s The Summer Shadow and the Christmas Prank takes the No. 9 position on the children’s list.

‘The Home’ to world premiere at South by Southwest

The Home is a chilling psychological horror that delves deep into the themes of love, friendship, and the universal terror of losing oneself. It is based on Mats Strandberg’s 2017 novel of the same name, about a man who returns to his small town to care for his dementia-stricken mother, as she experiences terrifying visions of her late abusive husband.

The Home stars Philip Oros, Anki Lidén, Gizem Erdogan and Malin Levanon, is directed by Mattias J Skoglund and written by J Skoglund together with Mats Strandberg.

The anticipated horror feature has been selected for the Texas festival South by Southwest (SXSW), where it will have its world premiere in March.

‘Faithless’ to be released on SVT

Faithless is a six-part TV series based on the 2000 feature of the same name – one of Ingmar Bergman’s final screenplays, transposed onto the big screen by Liv Ullmann.

Faithless premiered in 2024 at the Toronto Film Festival and will now be released on SVT Play, January 26, and air on SVT the following day.

The series is directed by Tomas Alfredson from scripts adapted by writer Sara Johnsen.

Frida Gustavsson and August Wittgenstein star as young Marianne and her husband Markus, while Gustav Lindh and Jesper Christensen take on David, Markus’ best friend, at a younger and older age, respectively. Lena Endre, who portrayed Marianne in the 2000 original, is reprising her role as the older version of Marianne.

‘Wolf Hour’ and ‘Bestseller’ dominates the Norwegian bestseller lists

Jo Nesbø’s newly released stand-alone novel, Wolf Hour, holds its position at No. 1 on the fiction bestseller list and ranks No. 2 in the e-book category. Meanwhile, Pascal Engman’s Bestseller claims the No. 1 spot on the paperback list.

‘Blindspår’ to premiere on Prime Video

Blindspår, which is freely based on Anne Holt’s acclaimed best-selling novel 1222, will premiere on Prime Video on Friday January 24. The four-part series stars Ida Engvoll, Pål Sverre Hagen, Kjell Bergqvist, Sissela Kyle, Fabian Penje and Elli Osborne.

The script is written by Sara Heldt together with director Erik Skjoldberg.

The Finnish Storytel Awards 2025

The voting is now open for this year’s Finnish Storytel Awards.

Among the nominated in the category Crime & Suspense are Anders de la Motte with The Mountain King, Yrsa Sigurdardóttir with Can’t Run, Can’t HideJo Nesbø with Blood Ties, and Lars Kepler with The Sleepwalker

Moa Herngren’s The Divorce is nominated in the Fiction category.

The winners will be announced at the Storytel Awards gala on March 13, 2025.

‘I May Be Wrong’ No.1 in Taiwan for 2024

Björn Natthiko Lindeblad’s I May Be Wrong has continuously featured at the top of the bestseller lists in Taiwan throughout 2o24 and it has now been announced it became the No.1 bestselling title of the year with major book retailers and platforms Books.com.tw, Readmoo, Kobo and Hyread. It was also earlier elected as one of retail chain Kingstone’s ‘Top 1o most influential books of the year’.

‘The Breakthrough’ Climbs Netflix’s Top 10 Charts

The Breakthrough premiered January 7 to great reviews, The Guardian, for instance, describes it as ”the best Scandi noir in years”. The tense true-crime thriller quickly climbed Netflix’s Global Top 10 and became the third most streamed series in the world, also claiming the number two spot on the Global Top 10 Non-English Shows list.

Based on a true story, The Breakthrough follows a detective who, after a shocking double-homicide goes unsolved for 16 years, teams up with a genealogist to catch the killer before it becomes a cold case.

The Breakthrough is written by Oskar Söderlund and directed by Lisa Siwe.

Lars Kepler shortlisted for the 2025 Mofibo Awards

The Danish audio and e-book service Mofibo has announced this year’s nominees in the Mofibo Awards and competing for the title of Best Translated Fiction is Lars Kepler’s tenth installment in the Joona Linna series, The Sleepwalker.
